Vivenda da Saudade is a serene B&B located in the fishing village of São Mateus da Calheta on the island of Terceira which lies in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean.
Referred to as the “Ilha Lilás” (the “lilac” or “violet” island), Terceira is part of the central island group and is one of the larger islands of the nine island Portuguese archipelago called the Azores.
Our B&B was built with all the confort every family home should have. This is exactly how we want you to feel. As comfortable as possible, as if you were home.
Terceira is one of the nine islands of the Azores, part of the so-called "Central Group". Primarily denominated as Ilha de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo das Terceiras, it was once the administrative center of the Terceiras Islands, as it was called the archipelago of the Azores. The designation Terceiras applied to all the archipelago of the Azores since they were the third islands discovered in the Atlantic. With the advancing of the years this island happened to be known only by Terceira Island.
Throughout its history, Terceira played a major role in the establishment and maintenance of the Portuguese Empire, due to its geostrategic location in the North Atlantic.
